The audiology division at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center was established in 1976. It is one of the newest major audiology programs in the United States. As a division of the section of otolaryngology in the department of surgery, the main goal of the audiology program at its inception was to develop a diagnostic service with the appropriate research and educational correlates for related disciplines. Therefore, there was and is an emphasis on neurodiagnostic audiology with research collaborations with otology, neurology, physiology, pharmacology, psychology, and neurosurgery.
In 1991, the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) moved from its Hanover, New Hampshire, location adjacent to Dartmouth College to a new 218 million dollar campus located in nearby Lebanon, New Hampshire. With this move, the audiology section gained considerable space and new facilities.
