The Joint Committee on Infant Hearing consists of national organizations representing audiology, education, otolaryngology, pediatrics, public health, and speech language pathology. The mission of the Joint Committee on Infant Hearing is to address issues that are important to the early identification, evaluation, and follow-up care of infants and young children with hearing loss. Specific objectives of the Joint Committee on Infant Hearing are:
  1. To formulate guidelines to support professionals in the development of programs for the early identification and evaluation of infants and young children with hearing loss.

  2. To facilitate follow-up care of infants and young children with hearing loss that is prompt, family-centered, community-based, and sensitive to cultural diversity.

  3. To provide guidance to professionals, consumers, and policy makers regarding the importance of prevention, detection of, and intervention for hearing loss in infants and young children.
